Mr. Mukul Kasliwal, aged 40, is Managing Director of the S. Kumars Group. He holds a Master’s Degree in Finance & Business Administration from the Simon School of Business, University of Rochester, USA prior to which he completed his Bachelors in Commerce from the Sydneham College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai. He graduated on the Deans List from the Simon School and was one of the youngest graduating students in his class.
Established in 1948 as a textile merchandiser, the S Kumar’s Group ventured into manufacturing in the early 1980’s. Over the last five decades, the Group has built a dominant presence in the Indian Textile sector and pioneered the use of synthetic fabrics in India. Apart from textiles, the Group is now engaged in diverse business activities including Retail, Hydro Power, Energy Services, Real Estate and Infrastructure Development. Mr. Kasliwal started his career with the Group in 1988 and has since been actively involved in various activities of the Group.
Over the years, Mr. Kasliwal has successfully handled a variety of challenging assignments for the Group, which has helped him gain valuable knowledge and a deep insight into diverse aspects of business. He has contributed significantly to the advancement of the Group and heralded new vistas including the Group’s first IPO in ’92 Mr. Kasliwal has also handled several international assignments for the group and skillfully negotiated agreements and joint ventures with large multinationals in the US, UK, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, France & Germany giving his in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Global marketplace especially in the fields of Textiles, Energy and International Finance.
In 1993 Mr. Kasliwal spearheaded the Groups foray into the highly challenging Power sector, with the distinction of being the first to achieve Financial Closure of a 400 MW Hydro Project, currently under implementation in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
In addition to keeping up with his business responsibilities, which involves hectic travelling and demanding schedules, Mr. Kasliwal has played an active and key role in some non-profit organizations such as Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Young President’s Organisation (YPO). In 2000 he served as Chairman of the Indo-US Joint Business working group on Energy and presented a 20 years Vision Statement for the Energy Sector in India.
Mr. Kasliwal has been a member of several high level international delegations from India, including Prime Ministerial and has travelled extensiveily across the globe to countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, USA, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, France, Portugal, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore and Dubai. He has also been a part of a special expedition to Antarctica at the turn of the millennium.
Deeply passionate about music, Mr. Kasliwal’s hobbies include writing, poetry, movies, swimming and learning about world history and politics. Given  his extensive travels and international exposure he has built a vast network of friends and associates that spans the Globe. In addition to his pursuit of excellence in his areas of business Mr. Kasliwal is deeply conscious of his social responsibilities and believes that the Business community has to increasingly contribute to the overall socio-economic development of India in a highly progressive and balanced manner in the years to come, creating sustainable employment opportunities across the country.
